The Emotion Detectives Group is designed to help children develop essential emotional regulation skills, providing them with tools to manage intense negative emotions. Based on the Unified Protocol for the Transdiagnostic Treatment of Emotional Disorders in Children (UP-C), this evidence-based group focuses on reducing emotional distress in children struggling with depression, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder, or difficulties in regulating strong emotions.

Child-Focused Strategies

The child-focused strategies include:

  • Emotion-focused education to understand and label feelings
  • Cognitive strategies for reframing negative thoughts
  • Problem-solving techniques to address emotional challenges
  • Gradual exposure to feared situations to reduce avoidance
  • Activities designed to increase meaningful engagement

Parent-Focused Strategies

 During the child session, parents participate in their own group, learning valuable skills to support their child’s emotional growth. Parent groups will:

  • Explore the emotion regulation strategies taught to children
  • Develop approaches to support their child in managing strong emotions
  • Probem solve parenting challenges with other parents and a provider

What: 12-week simultaneous child and parent sessions for 8-10 year-old children
