The Emotion Detectives Group is designed to help children develop essential emotional regulation skills, providing them with tools to manage intense negative emotions. Based on the Unified Protocol for the Transdiagnostic Treatment of Emotional Disorders in Children (UP-C), this evidence-based group focuses on reducing emotional distress in children struggling with depression, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder, or difficulties in regulating strong emotions.
If your child is struggling with managing intense emotions, the Emotion Detectives Group can help. Reach out to learn more about how this structured, supportive group can empower your family with effective emotional regulation strategies.
Child-Focused Strategies
During the 12-week program, children ages 8-10 engage in interactive sessions aimed at increasing emotional awareness and mastering emotional regulation techniques. The child-focused strategies include:
- Emotion-focused education to understand and label feelings
- Cognitive strategies for reframing negative thoughts
- Problem-solving techniques to address emotional challenges
- Gradual exposure to feared situations to reduce avoidance
- Activities designed to increase meaningful engagement
These evidence-based methods help children build resilience, tackle challenging emotions, and navigate life's difficulties with greater confidence.
Parent-Focused Strategies
At Alvord Baker, we recognize the importance of family support in emotional development. Alongside child sessions, parents participate in their own group, learning valuable skills to support their child’s emotional growth. Parent groups will:
- Explore emotion regulation strategies taught to children
- Learn parenting tools to encourage emotional resilience
- Develop approaches to support their child in managing strong emotions
Parents leave the program equipped with effective tools to foster a supportive home environment for emotional well-being.
