Dr. Shiffrin Starin has over 15 years of experience providing evidence-based treatment for children, teens and adults. She completed her post-baccalaureate fellowship at the National Institute of Mental Health researching youth with anxiety and depression. Dr. Shiffrin Starin earned her doctorate in clinical psychology from Yale University. While at Yale she received her certification in Kazdin Parent Management Training (Kazdin PMT), an evidence-based treatment for children with behavior problems, under the supervision of Dr. Alan Kazdin. She also received her certification in dialectical-behavior therapy for children (DBT-C) with emotion dysregulation from Dr. Francheska Perepletchikova. She was trained in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) for adults with anxiety and mood disorders at the Yale Center for Anxiety and Mood Disorders and in DBT for adolescents at the Yale New Haven Hospital Intensive Outpatient program.

Dr. Shiffrin Starin completed her predoctoral internship at Temple University under the supervision of Dr. Philip Kendall, where she gained experience providing the Coping Cat treatment, a cognitive-behavioral therapy program for children and adolescents with anxiety disorders, and provided CBT for adults at Episcopal Hospital. Dr. Shiffrin Starin has received specialized training in body focused and repetitive behaviors and supportive parenting for anxiety children (SPACE).Dr. Shiffrin Starin is licensed in Maryland, Washington, D.C., and New York and is authorized to practice telehealth in all states approved by PSYPACT.

Dr. Shiffrin Starin specializes in treating anxiety, depression, emotion dysregulation, OCD, BFRB and challenging childhood behaviors. She uses evidence-based skills and a genuine style to help patients gain comfort in facing uncomfortable situations and to build confidence. She loves helping guide college students and adults through transitions. She is passionate about helping parents learn to manage their children’s challenging behaviors and support them through their anxiety.

Dr. Shiffrin Starin also conducts research through Alvord Baker & Associates where she evaluates the effectiveness of the Resilience Builder Program ®. She is a co-author of Resilience Builder Universal, a classroom-based adaptation of the Resilience Builder Program that is designed to expand access to interventions for youth. Dr. Shiffrin Starin is a fellow of Resilience Across Borders, Inc.
