Please plan to log in by 8:40 AM to check-in. We will start promptly at 8:45 AM

INTRODUCTORY & INTERMEDIATE LEVEL: Target audience: clinicians and mental health professionals.

Cognitive Behavior Therapy is comprised of a set of therapies that include cognitive and behavioral treatments. They are evidence-based. They have been found to be effective for a range of mental health disorders including anxiety, depression, PTSD, behavioral dysregulation and OCD.

This workshop will review the theoretical foundations of the treatments in order to help the clinician formulate appropriate strategies in working with youth. Setting the foundation for work in CBT, we will begin with a review of Transtheoretical Stages of Change, Motivational Interviewing, Values Assessment, and the process of tolerating discomfort that all boost motivation for change. Pediatric case examples will be used throughout to illustrate principles and strategies. Emphasis will be placed on the core components of CBT and the techniques for generalization and maintenance of change.

Learning Objectives

  1. Describe the framework of CBT and how it is applied in treatment of youth.
  2. Discuss motivational components to enhance the CBT process.
  3. Explain six core components of CBT.
  4. List two techniques for generalization and maintenance of change that can be used with children and adolescents.
